Staff Report

Terrific Kids is a student recognition program through The Kiwanis Club promoting character development, self-esteem and perseverance. Students work with their teacher to establish goals to improve behavior, peer relationships, attendance or schoolwork and to reach their goal during a specific time period.

Kiwanis Club of Greater Brandon conducts this program in 25 area elementary schools, honoring 1,100 students each month of the school year for successfully achieving their goals.

To help keep this program up to par, the Kiwanis Club will hold its 15th Annual Terrific Kids Golf Tournament at Buckhorn Springs Golf Course, located at 2721 S Miller Rd. in Valrico on Thursday, November 5. Mosaic is the lead sponsor of this event.

Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. with lunch donated by Chick-fil-A Brandon and Qdoba Mexican Grill included. There is a 1 p.m. Shot Gun Start.

Dinner will also be included and it will be donated by Cheddar’s/3 C’s Catering.

The golf format will be a four person scramble. The cost to participate is $85 a person or a team discount for four players is $350. A $15 Special Player Package, consisting of two mulligans, six raffle tickets and entry into all golf contests, is also offered.

Soft spikes and collared shirt are required. Players will have a chance to participate in longest drive, closest to the pin and putting contests. A hole-in-one contest will be sponsored by Ed Morse Cadillac. Team prizes will be awarded for first through third place.

The Golf Tournament is just one of the ways that The Kiwanis Club seeks support of local children and youth projects undertaken by the 501 (c)(3) non-profit.

According to Past President and Foundation Board Member Gena Schaffer, “Terrific Kids is a student recognition program that promotes character development, self-esteem and perseverance. Students work with their teacher to establish goals to improve behavior, peer relationships, attendance or schoolwork and to reach their goal during a specific time period.
