Staff Report

The Durant High School Instrumental Music Program (DHSIMP) has been invited by Music Celebrations International to participate in a mass band concert on December 7, 2016, commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. This National Festival of the States, taking place in Honolulu, will provide a memorable musical, cultural and educational experience for participants.

Durant Music Booster Member Stephanie Granstaff said, “The DHSIMP will be performing alongside students from all over the United States and Japan. This extraordinary and historic event provides a once in a lifetime opportunity for our students.”

The mission of this cultural exchange is to demonstrate how cultures once opposed can work together through the gift of music. In an effort to include all of the students who are interested in attending, the Durant Music Boosters, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, is asking businesses and individuals to help provide financial assistance to students in the form of sponsorships or donations.

By supporting the music program and this event, donators will also help to reduce the $2,900 cost for each student. Estimated enrollment for this program is projected to be over 120 students, for a total of $348,000 that will be needed to ensure that each student may attend. With the addition of chaperones, music staff, and administration, the total cost will be close to$500,000. Supporters who choose to support this once-in-a- lifetime opportunity, will be recognized as follows: Bronze ($100-$4,999) – Honorable mention in 2016 West Coast Invitational (WCI) program. This is a regional band competition that DHSIMP hosts. Silver ($5,000+) – Name on a banner placed at the concession stand for all home events; plus Bronze. Gold ($10,000+) – Half page black and white ad in 2016 WCI program; plus Silver. Platinum ($15,000+) – One page black and white advertisement in 2016 WCI program and name on the back of travel shirt; plus Silver. Diamond ($20,000+) – One page color advertisement in 2016 WCI program, and large print name on top of travel shirts; plus Silver.
