Do you suffer from thinning hair or total hair loss? Were you born with fine, thin hair that exposes the scalp? If you answered yes to either question, you are not alone. Hair loss can occur in men, women and children due to medical, hormonal or genetic causes.

Custom Hair has been offering quality hair solutions since 1969. Owners Lori and Dan Younkman purchased the Tampa business, located on Busch Blvd., in 1998 and expanded to two additional locations: Brandon, located on N. Kings Ave. one block north of S.R. 60, and Clearwater in the Clearwater Mall. Custom Hair is the only Tampa Bay affiliate of Transitions Hair Replacement and Hair Loss Centers, an international organization.

Custom Hair carries their own brand name synthetic and human hair wigs in addition to hairpieces, falls, additions, turbans, scarves and hats. It also offers non-surgical Transdermal Hair Restoration where a professional technician grafts or bonds a custom hairpiece to the client’s head or hair.

Younkman said their typical clients are women with hair loss, oftentimes attributed genetics, hormonal changes, or medically related conditions.

When a client visits the salon, they can expect to have a full-service experience. First is the consultation with the client to evaluate their hair loss and propose potential options. Sandy Aycock, manager of the Brandon location, then follows up with a “hair fashion show” in a private room. Once a selection has been confirmed, this experienced staff teaches the client how to style and care for the hairpiece. For Transdermal Hair Restorations, the licensed technician will cut, style and graft the hair in a private salon room.

Cynthia Cox, a resident of The Villages, was suffering from a receding hairline for 10 years. She initially had a 1,500 follicular unit extraction (FUE), but was disappointed with the results.

Through an Internet search, she discovered Custom Hair and made an appointment. Cox opted for the hair restoration and was thrilled with her new appearance.

“Younkman gave me back my self-esteem,” Cox avowed. “My husband and family love it and told me I look younger.”

“The art of this is giving you enough hair to look natural,” explained Younkman. As a proud hair restoration client herself, Younkman enjoys helping clients like Cox and insisted, “It never gets old to me.”

Custom Hair is located in Brandon at 117 N. Kings Ave. Hours of operation are Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m.–5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.–4 p.m. For more information, call 651-9484 or visit www.customhairtampabay.com.
