Tucked away off the beaten path in Riverview, RVR Horse Rescue is a healing haven for neglected and abused equines. For over 10 years, Shawn Jayroe and her army of volunteer Horse Angels have demonstrated the grit and determination needed to take on one of America’s unspoken atrocities.

One recent example of the everyday goodness that happens beyond the gates of the serene ranch was a starving mare, Gypsy, and her two week old colt. The baby was already covered in sunburn and rain rot when a good samaritan called for help. In Gypsy’s emaciated condition, she was unable to produce enough milk for her boy. RVR picked up the pair and with 24 hour care to hand-feed the baby, both mother and son Luca are now on the road to recovery.

Author Shirley Alarie presents A Healing Haven – Saving Horses and Humans at RVR Horse Rescue. The riveting saga gives a glimpse into the world of horse rescue and the unforeseen healing powers of the ailing animals.

Love may not heal all wounds, but the magic within the pages of A Healing Haven is worth every tear. It is the story as told by Jayroe, whose passion for horses and desire to help the underdog was instilled during her childhood. Later, when the shy yet determined self-made businesswoman witnessed mistreatment of the majestic equines, a deep need to protect those without a voice begged her to action. Jayroe rallied troops from the community to bring her vision to life, and with dedicated volunteers and financial donations, a miraculous life-saving refuge was gradually pieced together, forming RVR Horse Rescue.

A Healing Haven is the second installment of Alarie’s Lemons to Lemonade Series of Inspirational Nonfiction. Her first installment is her personal breast cancer memoir, Losing the Girls – My Journey Through Nipple-Sparing Mastectomy and Beyond, and the third installment is underway. The Road Paved in Pink – A Personal and Practical Guide for Breast Cancer Patients and Their Loved Ones provides first-hand breast cancer guidance.

A Healing Haven is available in soft cover and ebook and can be found at Amazon Books, Barnes & Noble.com and Smashwords.com. For more information, visit shirleyalarie.com/a-healing-haven/.
