A brand new year started on January 1. This is the new year of 2016. Now is a good time to think about planning to do the things that God wants us to do in this new year.

It is normal for people to use the new year to erase the mistakes of the past year and begin with a clean slate. Think of it like a chalkboard at school and the chalkboard is filled completely full with everything that we did all year. Some of those things may be good, but all of us have made mistakes. Some of the mistakes we have made are no more than simply making a wrong decision.

Maybe you could have been kinder to your brother and sister. Maybe sometimes you didn’t do the chores your parents asked you to do. There are some things that we have done that God has told us in the Bible not to do. We call that sin.

Even though we can’t change the past, you can plan to do the things that God wants us to do this year. The beginning of the year is a great time to ask God to show you the things he wants you to do. So, think of this new year like going up to that chalkboard and erasing it. It’s completely clean and now we have the opportunity to fill it with as many good things as possible.

Then we can truly start the new year with a clean slate.

2 Corinthians 5:17 – Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here!
