“At Meritage Homes, we believe in building homes the way they can, and should, be built,” said Regional Marketing Manager Ben L. Campbell. From helping renters become homeowners to finding people their second or third homes, Meritage Homes crafts energy-efficient, 100 percent ENERGY STAR-certified homes that can save as much as 50 percent on utility costs. This is based on a 2012 average: Houston, HERS 61, 2,900 sq. ft.
home, located in the 2006 International Energy Conservation Code climate zone. These new homes are quieter, cleaner, healthier, smarter and safer. Year after year more homes are built that exceed the ENERGY STAR requirements for energy efficiency, which helps deliver long- and short-term savings to homeowners. As a result, for the third consecutive year, Meritage Homes has earned the EPA’s highest ENERGY STAR award, Partner of the Year-Sustained Excellence.

Meritage Homes was the first national builder to make every home built 100 percent ENERGY STAR certified. According to Campbell, “We consistently exceed the minimum ENERGY STAR requirements, build homes that achieve HERS scores as low as 61, and introduced the first cost-effective NET ZERO home by a national builder.”

With its unique building practices, Meritage homes, on average, are twice as energy-efficient as a typical U.S. home of the same size. With an array of money-saving features, from spray-foam insulation and energy-efficient windows that cut heating and cooling costs by as much as 50 percent, to ENERGY STAR appliances that use up to 50 percent less energy and water, its homes are EPA certified and provide energy-cost savings of up to 50 percent. With eight active communities in the area (and two more coming this year), there is a home fit for any family’s needs and budget.

“For 2016, we’ve just released some brand new floor plans that offer outdoor living spaces, huge covered lanais, and expansive multi-sliding glass doors which allow you to comfortably bring the outdoors in,” noted Campbell.
