The SouthShore Players will present The SouthShore Players Sing Rodgers and Hammerstein on Saturday, June 11 in two shows at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. The show will be held at the United Methodist Church Of Sun City Center located at 1210 Del Webb Blvd. W. in Sun City Center. Tickets to this exciting musical extravaganza are $10 if purchased in advance and $15 at the door.

Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein composed over 800 songs. The SouthShore Players have selected their 25 songs from Broadway hit musicals including Oklahoma, Cinderella, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I and The Sound of Music.

Ellen Kleinschmidt, vice president and music director for the SouthShore Players said, “Since we are a bit of a gypsy theater troupe at the moment with no venue to call home, we have decided to concentrate on doing musical revues. We chose a Rodgers and Hammerstein concert because we love the lush melodies and masterful lyrics of the duo and because they are so much fun to sing and universally loved by audiences young and old.”

Kleinschmidt added, “We are grateful to the staff and congregation of the church for giving us a place to rehearse and to perform our show.”

Jeff Jordan, director of worship arts for the United Methodist Church of Sun City Center said, “Some of the best singers in the South Shore area are involved in this production.”

Proceeds from the event will benefit the SouthShore Players Performing Arts Center Building Fund and to South Shore performing arts education. Kleinschmidt explained, “The vision of the SouthShore Players is to be a catalyst in the building of a much needed performing arts center in Hillsborough County’s South Shore community where children, teens and adults can have fun learning about and participating in the performing arts in a variety of ways.”

A portion of the proceeds the group received from performing their last concert was donated to Ruskin Elementary School’s Music Department.

Tickets are available at the church Monday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and on Friday from 8:30-1:30 a.m. Call 789-8271 or visit www.southshoreplayers.org to buy tickets with credit cards. For information on helping the SouthShore Players, call 789-8271 or email info@southshoreplayers.org.
