Staff Report

Stanley Gray has dedicated his life to taking action with purpose. He is now looking to take that mission to the Hillsborough County School Board by running for the District 7 countywide seat on the August primary ballot.

Gray graduated from the United States Naval Academy and then served as an Officer of Marines before being medically discharged. In the service, he was an instructor at several schools and helped create curriculum and training programs. Following his service to the country, he worked as a human resources executive at several large companies and later founded his own small firm. In semi-retirement, Gray has served as a substitute teacher in Hillsborough County schools and as a mentor to countless young people over the years.

He believes that we need to focus on improving high school graduation rates through early childhood intervention. Gray founded a non-profit organization, “On Track,” which helps teach first graders to want to learn how to read.

“Reading is the key. If you get elementary school students to enjoy reading, it sets them up for success for rest of their time in school and in life,” Gray said.

Gray has served on boards and executive committees of numerous local non-profits and is looking forward to representing all of Hillsborough County on the School Board if elected. “I want to be a voice for all of the citizens of Hillsborough County,” Gray said.
