Plaza Bella will hold its 9th Annual Plaza Bella Goes Pink Walk For The Cure on Saturday, October 15. You can choose the Diva Strut, which runs from Plaza Bella to the Bloomingdale Library and back, or the 5k Challenge Walk, which goes from Plaza Bella to Nature’s Way and back. Both walks are led by cancer survivors and both begin at 9 a.m. This year’s theme is Super Heroes.

The cost is $35 per person. Participants are encouraged to pre-register and pay for the registration at The Green Boutique. The Green Boutique is offering a special promotion, courtesy of Brighton, for early registration. All cancer survivors will receive a special bag.
For those who wish to honor family and friends who have been afflicted with cancer, you can donate $5 for a pink ribbon.

All proceeds from this event benefit the American Cancer Society, The Outreach Clinic and the YMCA’s Live Strong Program. No funds that are raised for the event are used to pay for expenses. The event is completely underwritten by The Green Boutique.

Roz Creager, owner of The Green Boutique said, “We hold this event to promote awareness, early detection and prevention of cancer. I truly care about this issue. Over the years, I have had a lot of customers who have gone through cancer. I have personally been affected. A few years ago, I lost my sister-in-law to pancreatic cancer. We all know the pain of diagnosis and loss. This is one of the reasons that this event honors all cancer survivors.”

Deborah Meegan, executive director of The Outreach Clinic said, “This event allows us to provide healthcare to hundreds of uninsured people every year. Part of the life-saving healthcare our volunteers provide includes screening for breast, cervical, prostate and colon cancer which have led to early diagnosis of cancer.”

On the day of the event, there will be a mobile 3D mammogram bus from Tampa Bay Mobile sponsored by the Florida Building Inspection Group. Insurance and self-pay are welcome, just bring a prescription from a referring physician.

Creager would also like to thank all of the people in the community that help to put on this event including Chris Heath of Big Beat Entertainment.

Plaza Bella is located at 1078 Bloomingdale Ave. in Valrico. For more information on this event, call 685-9494.
