Impact Program, Inc. Announces Annual Impact Celebration

Impact Program, Inc. is pleased to announce its upcoming, semi-formal, annual Impact Celebration fundraising dinner on Thursday, September 21 at The Regent, 6437 Watson Rd. in Riverview. Doors open at 6 p.m., program at 6:30 p.m.

Learn how this nonprofit organization is impacting today’s teens by educating and empowering them to make positive life choices and to avoid high risk behaviors. The Impact Program serves Hillsborough County public and private schools, YMCAs, Boys & Girls Clubs, Parks & Recreation Centers, and community organizations by promoting healthy living and relationships to teens through Teen Impact, to parents through the Parent Program, and to teachers and other youth leaders through classroom education.

Hawthorne Hosts Parkinson’s Disease Support Group

Hawthorne Health & Rehabilitation Center hosts a monthly support group for those diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and caregivers on the third Thursday of every month.
A variety of speakers will provide information on topics relating to swallowing, balance, walking, speaking, mobility, exercise, self-care, cognition, and memory, all of which can be impacted by Parkinson’s Disease.

The next meeting will take place on September 21 from 2-3 p.m. at the Media Center at Hawthorne. The speaker will be Pam Cooper, ARNP and the topic is Parkinson’s Phychosis and how PD affects emotions.

The support group is free of charge and open to those who have been diagnosed with the disease, family members, caregivers and anyone with an interest in learning more about Parkinson’s.

Charity Golf Tournament To Benefit St. Judes

Amazing Kidz Therapy is hosting a Charity Golf Tournament at River Hills Country Club on Friday, September 15 at 1 p.m.

The cost is $100 per player or $400 for a team. The cost includes greens and cart fees, lunch and dinner, skills contests, prizes, raffles and more.

The Bridges Assisted Living Community Hosts Free Medicare Presentation

Local residents are invited to attend a ‘Medicare Basics’ presentation on Tuesday, September 19 from 1- 2 p.m. at The Bridges Assisted Living Community, 11350 Bloomingdale Ave. in Riverview. Conducted by specially-trained volunteers of the Florida Department of Elder Affairs’ SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders), this presentation will provide detailed information on the basics of the Medicare program; including Medicare supplement insurance, Medicare Advantage plans, and financial assistance programs. SHINE volunteers will also be available to answer questions and provide enrollment or benefit application assistance.
