SunshineDrRiverar      Voltaire once said, “The art of medicine consists in amusing the patient while nature cures the disease.” Dr. Monica Rivera-Amill of Sunshine State Family Care in Lithia can relate to Voltaire’s statement because she too takes a holistic approach to the care she offers her patients.

“I have always believed that in order to provide excellent care, we as healthcare providers have to get to know our patients in a holistic manner to better understand and address their needs,” Rivera-Amill said. “By that I mean that in order to be as effective as possible, we need to know our patients in a physical, emotional and social context. We must learn and be interested about their families and their community.”

Rivera-Amill is originally from Puerto Rico. She obtained her Bachelor’s in biology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico. She attended Universidad Autonoma De Guadalajara in Mexico where she received her MD degree.  She continued on to New York Medical College.  She specialized in Family Medicine at Southwest Family Medicine Residency in Albany, Ga. in 2008.

She worked in urgent care and corporate health until 2009 when she moved to Tampa and began working in association with South Florida Baptist Hospital and a group practice.  In November 2013, Rivera-Amill launched her own branch, which is known today as Sunshine State Family Care in Lithia.

Sunshine State Family Care offers a broad range of primary care and medical services.

“Personally I’m always looking to improve my patient care and provide services that will not only make the patient feel better on the inside, but also feel good about themselves on the outside,” Rivera-Amill said. “We are constantly looking for new ways to achieve our patient’s goals and meet their needs.”

This is why her practice started to offer cosmetic treatments.

“We identified a need and wish for them, and we invested our efforts into learning how to provide them in a cost efficient way to our clients,” Rivera-Amill said.

Sunshine State Family Care will be offering a Day of Beauty on Tuesday, May 5 from 2–8 p.m. There will be light hors d’oeuvres, prizes and raffles, in addition to representatives from OBAGI and MERZ.
