Everything about moving into your first house is special, from the first look-through to assigning bedrooms to decorating and turning the house into a home.
Sarah Paiva-Hoke, along with her husband Sean and two children James, six and Ava, three, moved into their first home in March, after living in apartments for the last seven years. One room in particular gave Sarah a little trouble when it came to decorating: her new dining room. “I really had no idea what to do with the dining room because I never really had one before,” she said.
Hoke decided to enlist the help of a professional, and already a big fan of Nate and his show, she wrote to The Nate Berkus Show to tell her story. “First I got a phone call which let me know that my story was chosen as a finalist for one of the makeovers. I had an appointment to Skype with the executive producers, then all of a sudden I was Skyped into the actual taping of The Nate Berkus Show and he let me know my story was chosen,” said Hoke.
On Monday, November 21, The Nate Show came to Valrico to give Hoke and her family a beautifully decorated dining room and fresh start in their new home. “While the design team worked on the dining room my family we all went to stay at my in-laws,” said Hoke. “That Saturday we returned to the house for the big reveal and that’s when I saw Nate. I was so surprised; I did not expect him to be here at all. ”
Hoke is thrilled with her brand new dining room and plans on having a big Christmas breakfast with her family in there as a part of the celebration. “I’m very blessed and very excited about everything that happened,” she said. “It’s my favorite room in the whole house and I’ll go in there to relax sometimes. I love opening the curtains in the front room so that everyone outside can see it, too. I feel like Santa Claus gave me an early Christmas present this year.”
