Family Medical Care of Riverview currently houses a staff of six physicians. It is expanding to a second location in Winthrop this month.

On Monday, March 5, Family Medical Care of Riverview will be opening the doors of its newest location at Winthrop Town Centre.
The new facility, located behind the Regions Bank building, will house 12 exam rooms, a fully functional lab, equipment for ancillary services such as ultrasound machines, ADA compliant equipment for patient convenience and the capacity to house up to three physicians at any one time.
Currently, the FMC Group houses six physicians along with their support staffs. Their primary headquarters is located fewer than three miles away and, despite boasting a size of 10,000 sq. feet, has already become too small to house the group’s full services.
“Our physicians are completely different in the ways that they practice and treat their patients,” said Eddie Lauderback, the group’s Practice Administrator about FMC’s success. “We have patients where three generations of a family will all come to the same doctor, because there is trust there. That’s the doctor they feel comfortable with.”
Lauderback estimates that the practice treats an average of 150 patients each day.
Part of the group’s success can be attributed to its somewhat unique hours: its primary facility is open for patients at 7 a.m. during the week and does not close until 10 p.m.; it is also open on Saturdays. This allows patients the convenience of being able to visit their doctor before or after work, according to Lauderback.
FMC believes that expanding to Winthrop will foster a great relationship with the community.
“This is a great community with so much growth and so many resources for a medical team that can provide state of the art services and accommodating hours,” said Lauderback. “We’re coming to this area to accommodate their healthcare needs. It’s our job to make people healthier.”
She believes this new expansion will help to do just that. “We want this practice to show the true picture of what a family physician is,” said Lauderback.
