New Horizons Group Homes will hold its annual barbecue and silent auction on Saturday, November 10.  This is the major fundraiser for New Horizons, a non-profit organization that operates two homes for developmentally challenged adults, all of whom work in the community or in sheltered workshops. The faith-based organization was started in 1992, with the first home opening in 1999.

The barbecue will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Central Baptist Christian School gymnasium, located at 402 E. Windhorst Rd. in Brandon.

The meal includes a pulled pork barbecue sandwich with potato salad, baked beans, beverage and dessert. Tickets are $10 for adults at the door or can be purchased in advance by calling 571-2690. Children’s meals are $5. There will also be a bouncy house for children.

All proceeds from the auction go to New Horizons Group Homes.

Entertainment will be provided by professional violinist Stephanie Simon. She plays everything from classical to gospel to country and everything in between.  Also providing outstanding musical entertainment will be Andy Peaveyhouse and his band.

Brenda Watkins said, “The BBQ, Silent Auction, and the sale of ornaments are the major fundraisers for New Horizons.  Because funding has been cut, we must depend on donations and these events to help sustain the homes.”

A highlight of the BBQ and Silent Auction is always the introduction of the newest keepsake ornament. This year’s ornament, designed by Lora Eisenberg, depicts The Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce.  Our Brandon chamber is one of only 75 out of 7,000 chambers in the United States to have achieved a 5-Star Rating.  This is an ornament that is sure to be appreciated by everyone in our community.  This is our 18th ornament depicting historical locations in the Brandon community. Many of the previous ornaments are still available for sale.

After the BBQ, the ornaments will be available at Age’s Art & Frame, Bill’s Prescription Center, First Baptist Church Brandon, First United Methodist Church, Greg’s Hallmark, Martin’s Jewelers, Rainbow Engraving, The Frame Shop & Gallery, The Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce, and Victorian Grace Tea Room.  These friends of New Horizons also have the previous ornaments available, and they receive no compensation from New Horizons.
