Did you know that heart disease is the number one killer of women? If you have been searching for information on how to live a healthier life, then sign up for “Healthy Start To A Healthy Heart” Week of Wellness. This is a collaboration of Brandon Regional Hospital and the Campo Family YMCA.

“Healthy Start To A Healthy Heart” Week of Wellness will be held at the Campo Family YMCA from Monday, February 11 through Thursday, February 14. The week will feature physician lectures, health screenings and refreshments. The physician speakers are on staff at Brandon Regional Hospital and will provide expert advice and health education to the community.

Patty Montgomery, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for Brandon Regional Hospital said, “This collaboration demonstrates the commitment of both Brandon Regional Hospital and the YMCA in promoting a healthy lifestyle. The programs have been designed to raise awareness of the risk factors of heart disease, how to prevent it and help people learn to quickly recognize the signs and symptoms of a heart attack.”

Rommel Velasco, Sr. Wellness Director for the YMCA (Campo and FishHawk branches) said, “Lasting personal and social change is best accomplished when we all work together and invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors.”

On Monday, February 11, Ignacio Duarte, M.D. (Cardiothoracic Surgeon) will kick off the Wellness Week with a lecture, “Keeping Your Ticker In Tip-Top Shape” at 6:30 p.m.

Next, on Tuesday, February 12. learn some cooking tips with a Healthy Living Cooking Demonstration hosted by Robek’s at 6 p.m. This will be followed by a lecture by John Morrison, M.D. called “Count Your Carbs Now, So They Don’t Count You Later” at 6:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, February 13 Sameer Nagamia, M.D. (Cardiologist) will present “Heart 411…The Information You Need To Know” at 6 :30 p.m.

For the first 50 who sign up, you can enjoy a delicious Heart Smart Luncheon on Thursday, February 14 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. The lunch is hosted by Chick-fil-A.

This week of informative lectures, presentations and lunch are free and open to the public, but space is limited, so please register early. Please call 684-1371 to sign up. All lectures and presentations will take place at the Campo Family YMCA located at 3414 Culbreath Rd. in Valrico.
