Talented art students from Tampa Preparatory School in Tampa recently had the opportunity to have their beautiful and intriguing artwork shown in an exhibition at The Bricks of Ybor located at 1327 E. 7th Ave. in Ybor City. The Bricks of Ybor is owned by Brandon resident, Brian Schaefer.
The exhibit, called “DepARTure” consisted of artwork of Upper School students of which five are residents of the greater Brandon area. The students include Chris Hendrix of Riverview; Tori Little of Brandon; Anna Parry of Brandon; Katie Collins of Valrico; Jessie Hickey of Brandon; and Noreen Latif of Brandon.
Martha Deambrose, Arts Department Chair at Tampa Prep said, “This is the students’ show. The art shown was picked because it is their favorite pieces and not necessarily the one that received the highest grade.” Deambrose added, “I have never seen students light up and be so confident. That alone made all of the work in putting this show together worth it.”
Katie Collins, a Junior at Tampa Prep and a resident of Valrico said, “I am proud of my piece. It was exciting to be a part of such a great show.”
The exhibit included a wide range of art including photography, printmaking, collage, drawing, painting (acrylic and watercolor), mixed media and pencil.
Stacey Cummins who teaches both math and art and is the Yearbook Faculty Advisor said, “This show allowed the students to display their art in the community. At Prep, not only do we give students the opportunity to finish assignments, but we give them the opportunity to show their pieces and even sell them.”
Students have also been given the opportunity to enter artwork in the Las Damas Sunday in the Arts event which is held annually in March.
