The Apollo Beach Woman’s Club (ABWC) will welcome new and returning members to the September 11 luncheon meeting being held at Little Harbor, located at 611 Destiny Dr., in Ruskin.

The meeting will be presided over by President Sharon Vasquez beginning at 11:30 a.m. with socializing, followed by lunch and program with Dr. Brandt Henningsen of the Southwest Florida Water Management District.

Recognized by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAAA) for his dedication in restoring Tampa Bay habitat, Dr. Henningsen will discuss the importance of protecting and restoring threatened surface water bodies. He has done various studies and research including Cockroach Bay habitat restoration.

Founded in 1959, the ABWC has grown to 176 members who not only provide scholarships to graduates but have expanded its help to the community by supplying needed clothing to two elementary schools, assisting families in need with Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, and providing Christmas gifts under their tree.  Also ABWC has awarded scholarships to Apollo Beach youngsters to attend Hillsborough County’s Park’s summer camps.

Stephanie Betz, Secretary of ABWC said, “A little over three years ago, I moved from New Tampa to Sun City Center and a friend mentioned the Apollo Beach Woman’s Club as a good organization to join. Now I begin my third year as secretary of the group. The club is involved in the SouthShore area helping children and the community. The women are all so caring that any new project chosen is always funded and fulfilled 100 percent. Good meetings, good speakers, good events, good fundraising, wonderful friends; the club has it all. “

Members also enjoy enrichment activities which include Book Club, Bridge Club, Culture Club and Garden Club.

ABWC is open to all women in the Apollo Beach community. For membership (dues $20/year) or information regarding any of the club’s activities, contact Judy Peck 746-1072 or judypeck@tampabay.rr.com.

Luncheon tickets are $16.  Reservations for the September 11 meeting must be made by Friday, September 6 by calling Deanna Anest at 938-3641 or email hookr06@hotmail.com.
