The 4th Annual High School Art Show, sponsored by the SouthShore Arts Council and hosted by the SouthShore Regional Library, is currently on display at the SouthShore Regional Library located at Beth Shields Way in Ruskin. The art will be on display through the end of February.

This year the show was limited to schools located in the SouthShore area. Artwork from students who attend East Bay, Lennard, Spoto and Riverview High Schools are on display. Each school can enter up to 25 pieces and the entries are juried into the show. There are 43 pieces of artwork in the show. This year’s juror was Michael Parker who is known for his large scale murals.

Students who place in the show receive cash awards as does the Art Department of the high school they attend. The SouthShore Arts Council writes a grant for the prize money which is funded by the Community Foundation of Greater Sun City Center and the John and Elizabeth Crawford Foundation.

This year’s winners included overall Best of Show, Lyzmarie Irizarry-Colon, East Bay; First Place (non-photo), Kyle Santos, East Bay; First Place (photo) Destiny Santos, East Bay; Second Place (non-photo), Alexander Neal, East Bay; Second Place (photo), Vanessa Torres, East Bay; Third Place (non-photo), Alma Rojas, East Bay; Third Place (photo), Ashleigh Pilley, East Bay; and People’s Choice Award, Jacob Council, Lennard.

Laurie Burhop, Art Coordinator at the SouthShore Regional Library said, “I felt that this was a very good show. Our juror, Michael Parker, did a very good job jurying the show. It is always nice to showcase the work of the art students in this area.”

The next show at the SouthShore Library will feature artwork that is six inches by six inches. The show will begin on Monday, March 3 and will run through April. For more information on exhibits at the SouthShore Regional Library, please contact Burhop at 273-3652.
