Plaza Club_4J6A5132_editFor SouthShore residents seeking a full-service meeting space, there’s a bright new hidden treasure in Sun City Center, located just three minutes off of the interstate.

Brookdale Senior Living’s Freedom Plaza has been a staple in the Sun City Center community for many years, with its first residents arriving back in 1992. One of the earliest buildings constructed on the 142-acre campus was the model center, built nearly 24 years ago. After Freedom Plaza’s construction was completed, this residential model center transitioned into a banquet facility and became known as Plaza Club. For many years, Plaza Club offered space for Freedom Plaza residents and local organizations to use for meetings and gatherings.

Over time, the facility began to age and the need for maintenance and remodeling became apparent. As a result, PlazaPlaza Club_IMG_1947_edit Club underwent a complete renovation in 2013, with a new roof and air conditioning system, as well as major interior improvements, such as new flooring, ceiling, lighting and fixtures. The project was completed in December 2013 and Plaza Club recently welcomed guests to its open house in early March to unveil the facility’s new look.

The Plaza Club features a brand new full liquor bar and is also equipped with a complete audiovisual system, including projector and screen, audio system and flat panel monitors. The renovated space can accommodate groups as large as 100 people and with its convenient location adjacent to the Freedom Fairways Golf Club, it’s a natural destination for many group golfing events and tournaments.

And when it comes to catering services, Plaza Club really shines. Karen Schluntz, director of dining services, oversees an experienced staff of food and beverage professionals, including catering manager Rosa Ozuna and executive chef Brandon Jahnke. Together, this creative team can put together a culinary delight that can satisfy even the most discerning palette.

“We are used to extremely high standards here with our residents,” explained Karen Schluntz.

Plaza Club currently has several groups who meet regularly at the facility, and would welcome additional organizations with 30 or more attendees to take advantage of the new space and flexible catering options.
