Radio station 99.5 WQYK DJ and Host Dave McKay came to Reflections Hair Gallery and Spa Inc. located on S.R. 60 E. in Valrico recently for a haircut and to meet some new friends.
McKay was invited by owner/master stylist Koryn Kleist and her son Rylee, who met McKay at a local McDonalds during FCAT week. Kleist invited McKay to her gallery for a haircut and McKay was happy to come. He and co-host Veronica competed in the second annual Dave & Veronica-Race to 1K in May to see who could meet 1,000 new friends face to face first and hand out official WQYK Team Dave or Team Veronica koozies.
If Veronica reached 1,000 friends first, McKay had to get his chest waxed live on air and if McKay won, he would release a video of his co-host being ambushed in the bathroom.
McKay got a great cut and met about 30 new friends at Reflections, and then was invited by the Osprey Observer to come and meet even more friends at the Osprey Observer booth at the annual Brandon Chamber of Commerce Business Expo and Taste of Brandon. McKay attended and met another great group of friends.

McKay was born in Buffalo, NY and raised in Bemus Point, NY. He often visits for holidays and vacations. Right out of high school, McKay knew he wanted to have his own radio show. One of his teachers recommended him to the local radio station in Jamestown, NY and after applying, he called everyday for five weeks until he was hired. McKay enjoys the accessibility of WQYK artists. Back in April after the Academy of Country Music Awards he hung out in Vegas with Gloriana and to this day the group keeps in touch.
