Palmerenhancedpalmerhousephotos0001With temperatures still in the 80’s, it’s hard to believe that fall is here. In a few more weeks it will be Thanksgiving and then shortly after that, Christmas. The holiday travel season will be in full swing with family members traveling to the sunshine state to spend time with their loved ones. Sometimes there just isn’t enough room for everyone under one roof so family members may have to check into a hotel.

Hotels just don’t feel like “home” so another option for lodging during the holidays may be staying at a bed and breakfast.

“The Palmer House Bed and Breakfast is the perfect place for your holiday guests because they are close to their family and they will feel like they are at home,” said Gail Palmer, owner of the Palmer House.

The Palmer House Bed and Breakfast in Lithia opened in 2000 and it is one of the best-kept secrets of the Brandon area. Guests of the bed and breakfast get to experience the true meaning of Southern hospitality with horse back riding and canoeing down the Alafia River.

“We cater to local and out of state guests for retreats, weekend getaways, special events and romance packages,” Palmer said. “We are also hosting several local businesses Christmas parties with special music, hay rides and holiday foods, just like an old fashion Christmas.”

The history of bed and breakfasts can be traced back to the time of the early American settlers. Pioneers traveling across the United States sought safe refuge in homes, inns and taverns. During the Great Depression, many people opened their homes to travelers to help bring in extra money for their family.

Bed and breakfasts are very popular in Europe, and with so many Americans traveling overseas and staying in bed and breakfasts, they have become very popular places to stay.

The Palmer House is open year round and it’s the perfect place to kick back and relax.

“As you enter our gates, you can leave all your cares behind,” Palmer said.
