Staff Report

The Newsome High School (NHS) Newsome Band Boosters are hosting an Inaugural Run with the Wolves 5K Run/Walk on Friday, October 30. The event is open to the public and promises to be a fun, safe, and wonderful opportunity for runners, families, and community to support the NHS Wolfpack Marching Band. Registration and festivities start at 8 p.m. The 5K starts at 9:15 p.m. at the Newsome Football field. The route includes the grounds of Newsome High School, Randall Middle School and the FishHawk Sports complex.

Newsome Band Booster President Susan Messina said, “Hosting the 5K Run With the Wolves is a great way to support the school marching band program while supporting healthy, active lifestyles and providing another great opportunity for band supporters, music lovers, families and the community to get together for a great local cause.”

All proceeds will benefit the Newsome High School Wolfpack Band Program. This year, the 140 member Newsome High School Marching Band, under the Direction of Mr. Michael Miller, will travel to Delaware to compete in the prestigious Bands of America Competition with bands from all over the country. The marching band will then get to represent Florida at the 2016 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. Newsome is one out of 10 bands chosen from over 175 applicants for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Last year, the Newsome High School Band received numerous accolades and hope for similar awards and recognition this year as well.

Participants are encouraged to wear family friendly costumes, tutus and tiaras. There will be festivities, food trucks, and fun present before, during, and after the event at the Newsome football field area.

The 5K will take place at the Newsome High School Football Field. Entry fees, which include race timing chips are $35 before Thursday, October 15 and $40 after. There will be a race T-shirt for the first 150 entrants. Register at
