A recent four-day getaway to Washington D.C. not only provided that much needed time out, but also amplified the team’s patriotism and love of country.
“We serve so many families that make huge sacrifices and I wanted the team to better understand them and feel this arc of patriotism at these sacred places,” said Brenda.
The team visited the different memorials: Air Force, World War II, Korean War as well as The White House, Library of Congress, Supreme Court and more. It was a whirlwind four days, they were determined to see all that D.C. had to offer.
It was Closing Manager Sondra Hill’s first time visiting the nation’s capital. She felt humbled at The Marine Corps War Memorial, which was a reminder of the grit, courage, honor, resilience and fortitude of the people who came before us and protected this country’s freedom. She was also moved at Arlington National Cemetery. “Every single American should experience standing on its hallowed ground,” she said.
The visit was also moving for Brenda, who has personal knowledge of the challenges that face military families. Her parents met during the Korean War. Her father, who was in the military, was an escort to a fallen soldier. As he was bringing the body home, he met her mother, who was the fallen soldier’s sister.
Other team members’ lives are touched by the military family dynamic. “It’s so interwoven in the team and the people we serve,” said Brenda, who uses that knowledge and understanding to better serve her military clients.
