Hillsborough County Hosts 52nd Annual Veterans Day Tribute

The Department of Consumer & Veteran Services and the Veterans Council of Hillsborough County will host the county’s 52nd Annual Veterans Day Tribute on Friday, November 11 at 11 a.m. The event will take place at Veterans Memorial Park and Museum, 3602 U.S. Highway 301 N in Tampa. 

Hillsborough County’s patriotic Veterans Day Tribute will honor all active and former U.S. military service members. The event and the Rear Admiral LeRoy Collins, Jr. Veterans Museum are free and open to the public. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. The park will open at 8 a.m., and the museum at 10 a.m., for those who would like to see the monuments and exhibits before the ceremony.

With a theme of “Honoring America’s Veterans,” the 52nd Annual Veterans Day Tribute will feature a variety of speakers and presentations, including:
-Retired U.S. Air Force Col. Jim Waurishuk   
-U.S. Navy Cmdr. Scott Johnson, CENTCOM
-MacDill Air Force Base, 6th Air Mobility Wing Color Guard
-Rifle Detail and playing of taps, Riverview Detachment of the Marine Corps League
-MIA/POW Missing Man Ceremony
-JROTC exhibition drill performances and patriotic recitations
-Awards by the Veterans Council of Hillsborough County
-Newsome High School Jazz Band
-Refreshments provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8108

Camping World in Bartow, Florida Honors Active-Duty Military and Veterans by Flying Vast American Flag

Camping World of Bartow, which is located at 7400 State Road, 60 East, will hold an official flag raising ceremony on Saturday, November 12 at 10am.

Refreshments and a light lunch will be served during the ceremony, which will be attended by the local Polk County Fire Rescue Peace Creek station, a
representative from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and members of the Winter Haven High School ROTC under Sergeant Major Carter will be on-site to assist in raising the flag. All local public service and safety members, military, veterans and community members are invited to attend this event.

Currently, the massive American flag flies high at over 75 Camping World SuperCenters across the country.

Celebrate the 241st Birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps

Marines, active duty, retired veterans – come and join your brothers and sisters on Thursday, November 10 to celebrate the 241st birthday of the Marine Corps at American Legion Post #148, located at 7240 U.S. Hwy. 301 in Riverview.

There will be the telling of sea stories starting at 10 a.m. Light refreshments will be served all day and the first beverage will be compliments of the Riverview Detachment of the Marine Corps League. At 7 p.m., there will be the traditional reading of Marine Corps Order 47 as directed by Major General John A. Lejune and the current Commandants birthday message. As is customary, the first piece will be presented to the oldest Marine present and the second piece to the youngest.
