The Brandon Regional Library, located at 619 Vonderburg Drive in Brandon, is closed in order to perform pest control maintenance.

In preparation for the library opening to the public this morning, staff found bedbugs in recently returned books. They immediately discarded those books.

While this is an isolated incident, library officials immediately contacted a pest control company. The company is thoroughly inspecting, treating, and cleaning the building. It’s expected the library will reopen on Friday; all scheduled programs and events are canceled until the library reopens.

Residents can locate their nearest library by visiting the Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library System’s website at hcplc.org/locations.

More information about preventing and managing bed bugs is available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website at http://www.cdc.gov/parasites/bedbugs/faqs.html.
