Get a Free Irrigation Evaluation From County

Spring is the driest season in Central Florida. Having your irrigation system serviced can save you money and conserve water.

In Hillsborough County, a licensed irrigation contractor or plumber is necessary to perform most types of work on your irrigation system. Permits are required for the alteration, replacement or relocation of any standpipe or water supply. If you pull a permit, you will receive a final inspection by the County. Call Development Services at 272-5600 for permit or licensing questions.

If you are a high water user and would like to see if you qualify for a free irrigation evaluation, call Paula Staples, Public Education Program Coordinator at 744-5519 Ext. 54142.

Call For ‘Doctor Who’ Fan Art in the Library

The Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library system is issuing its annual call to artists to submit ‘Doctor Who’ fan art for a chance to win prizes – and the latest twist in the long-running BBC sci-fi series should provide plenty of fresh ideas.

Artists of all ages are invited to apply for an exhibition and competition that are part of the kickoff event for the library’s 2018 Summer Reading program. Dubbed Day of the Doctor, the kickoff is a tribute to the series that features the time-traveling adventures of an immortal alien – who for the first time in the series’ 54-year history has been regenerated as a woman.

Applications for the fan art contest will be accepted through Friday, May 25. Artwork accepted into the exhibition will be displayed at the John F. Germany Public Library in downtown Tampa from June 2-9.

To apply, artists should:
Submit one example of the kind and style of artwork they intend to exhibit.

Include a cover letter highlighting brief biographical information and other interesting information about the artist or artwork.

Note the exact size and composition of the artwork to be entered.

Mail submissions with digital images on a CD to: John F. Germany Public Library, Attn: Jennifer Brown, 900 N. Ashley Drive, Tampa, FL 33602, or via email to libraryprogramming@hillsboroughcounty.org.
Contest/Exhibition Guidelines
This contest/exhibition is open to artists of all ages.

The artwork will be exhibited at the John F. Germany Public Library for one week with no fee to the artist.
The artist must bring artwork ready to hang on designated wall space at a mutually agreed upon date and time.

A contest will be held on Saturday, June 9 during the Day of the Doctor event, and prizes will be awarded.

The exhibition, its publicity (including exhibit photos), placement and inclusion of artwork, and exhibition duration rests entirely with Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Libraries.
