Parents Night Out At FAOPA Kicks Off Summer Celebration

The Florida Academy of Performing Arts (FAOPA), 402 Oakfield Dr. in Brandon, will hold a Parents Night Out on Friday, May 18 from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Kids ages 5-12 will enjoy an evening of fun that will include games, food, prizes, crafts, and more. There will be an Ice Age theme for this event, which will also include Kona Ice. Your kids will get to watch the movie Ice Age as the summer celebration kicks off.

Hawks Hold Competitive Soccer Tryouts

Florida Hawks Futbal Club (FC) is hosting competitive tryouts for the 2018-19 season the week of May 7 at the club’s fields on FishHawk Blvd. in Lithia.

Learn To Make A Mixed Media Art Tag At Bloomingdale Library

A Create Workshop will be held at the Bloomingdale Regional Library, 1906 Bloomingdale Ave. in Valrico, on how to make a mixed media art tag.  Artist and instructor, Judith Henry, will demonstrate how to create a tag that can be used as a bookmark, a gift label or keepsake. Students should bring copies of small family photos, magazines and newspaper clippings of words that illustrate their feelings. The workshop is scheduled for Saturday, May 12 from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p. m. in Room 8. Register online at HCPLC.org.

Alafia Wins Third At Super Seven Math Bowl

The Alafia 5th grade Math Bowl team won third place in the Super Seven Math Bowl in February at One Buc Place in Tampa. The seven top schools, including Alafia, Carrollwood, Clark, Claywell, Mitchell, Roosevelt and Tampa Palms, were chosen for their high scores in the December Math Bowl competition. Students were treated to a visit by Will Gholston, defensive end of the Bucs who spent time talking to all of the students and coaches. They also met two members of the Glaser family.

The Alafia team included Collin Bui-Hayes, Ryan Chareonsook, Taylor Gregory, Matthew Grizio and Tyler Hacker, with their coach, Katherine Eberhardt. The Alafia students placed third in the district championship after Mitchell and Claywell. Congratulations!

Hawthorne Hosts Parkinson’s Disease Support Group

Hawthorne Health & Rehabilitation Center hosts a monthly support group for those diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and caregivers on the third Thursday of every month.

A variety of speakers will provide information on topics relating to swallowing, balance, walking, speaking, mobility, exercise, self-care, cognition, and memory, all of which can be impacted by Parkinson’s Disease.

Hawthorne Health & Rehabilitation Center, located at 851 W. Lumsden Rd. in Brandon, is a skilled nursing facility with inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs including speech, physical and occupational therapies. FishHawk Fellowship Presents Summer Basketball Camp

Take your game to the next level and develop your skills and have fun doing it. Daily work will improve every player’s technical abilities. Camp is suitable for everyone from beginners to elite players. Fishhawk Fellowship is partnering with Alpha & Omega Sports, Inc., who’s experienced staff designs intense, fun training sessions.

Camp will take place Monday to Thursday, July 16 – 19 and is for boys and girls from 2nd-12th grade. It will take place at Randall Middle School, 16510 Fishhawk Blvd. in Lithia from 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The cost is $125.
