For many years, Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce (GRCC) has honored local educators with a very special breakfast, known as Teaching to Excellence. The event is successful thanks to the incredible community support of GRCC business members, their representatives and local residents who are happy to have this opportunity to ‘give back’. This year’s Teaching to Excellence will be held at The Regent on Wednesday, August 8.

Approximately 300 new teachers from the Riverview elementary, middle and high schools are invited to the event which is held just before the start of each school year. Additionally, the Principal and the 2017/18 Teacher of the Year from each of the Riverview schools are invited to attend as well.

In addition to the hundreds of educators in the room, there will also be dozens of business sponsors hosting Supply Stop tables for attendees. Upon arrival, the teachers are provided a goodie bag from GRCC and then proceed through the pathway of Supply Stops. As well as meeting the representative from each of the businesses, the teachers receive offers and school supplies at each table.

According to Tanya Doran, “They will all be treated to a delicious hot breakfast, networking opportunities, Teacher of the Year recognitions and, of course, tables full of terrific door prizes for the teachers.  Each year the teachers leave this event with a big smile on their face and an even bigger bag of supplies on their arm. To many of these teachers this bag means the world to them. For every item in that bag, it is money they did not have to spend out of their own pocket to support the children of our community.”

The GRCC is collecting supply donations and raffle prizes now and would greatly appreciate the community’s support of this event.

A list of requested supplies include: calculators, notebooks/composition books, pencil and pen packs, highlighters, dry erase markers, packs of crayons/markers, folders, hand sanitizer, flash drives, scissors, rulers, staplers, tissues, pencil cases/pouches, post it notes, clipboards, erasers, organizers, colorful/fancy pens for grading, desk tags, borders or wall decorations for elementary school, Clorox wipes and copy paper.

Drop off donations at the Suncoast Credit Union, 10405 Gibsonton Dr. or GRCC office, 10101 Bloomingdale Ave.
