Tampa General Hospital is considered one of the top 50 hospitals in the nation. With such a rich tradition and history dating back as far as 1926, it is no wonder that Tampa General has become a trusted name in the community.
In September, Tampa General opened its newest urgent care center at 799 W Lumsden Rd. in Brandon. The 4,000 sq. ft. facility consists of five exam rooms, a laboratory room and an x-ray room.

Marion Dawkins, manager of ambulatory business operations is excited to get the word out to the families in the community. The clinic is averaging about 70 people per week since the doors opened last month and the volume is increasing daily.

“TGH Urgent Care is a walk-in clinic that provides medical treatment for a variety of non-emergency conditions,” said Dawkins. “Some of our most common conditions treated are sinus infections, cough colds and flu, ear infections, minor cuts and bruises and urinary tract infections.”
Having an urgent care clinic available for non-emergency conditions allows the emergency rooms located at local hospitals to focus on life threatening, emergency conditions.

“Typically, wait times at an urgent care are much less than they would be in an emergency room,” said Dawkins. “Urgent cares also provide care at a much lower cost than an emergency room would for non-life threatening illnesses.”

Providing the same high quality care to patients that all other Tampa General facilities provide, it also links patients’ electronic medical records as the hospital and other primary care clinics.

“So, if you’ve ever been seen at a Tampa General Hospital facility, we have access to your past records, which makes for a more seamless patient experience and for better quality of care,” said Dawkins.

The clinic is also open seven days a week. The hours are Monday to Friday 10 a.m.-10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m.-8 p.m. It also has an on site laboratory and x-ray capabilities for one-stop convenience.

“This urgent care center allows us to provide care in the communities that we serve,” said Adam Smith, vice president of ambulatory services. “It is an important part of the strategic plan for Tampa General Hospital to expand our services and provide patients convenient care where they live and work.”
