The Rotary Club of Bloomingdale/FishHawk is hosting its first ever Crawfish Festival at FishHawk Ranch on Saturday, May 14, from 12 Noon-3 p.m. A crawfish boil is not just a meal, it is an event. This one will be complete with a live Cajun band.

The Rotary Club of Bloomingdale/FishHawk is proud to present its First Annual Crawfish Festival in FishHawk Ranch at Park Square on Saturday, May 14, from 12 Noon-3 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the event. Kids receive a free hot dog with a non-perishable food donation.
“We hope to make this a signature event for our club and hold it in FishHawk each year,” said Elijah Heath, club president.
This is your opportunity to experience a taste of Louisiana with an authentic crawfish boil prepared by a native son. Rotary club member Michael Broussard has much experience in putting on a crawfish boil. Broussard is a native of Erath, Louisiana and a former restaurateur. “It’s all in the spice,” said Broussard.
It is also all about the freshness and quality of the crawfish, or mudbugs as they are commonly called. Not to worry here, Broussard has arranged for a pickup of fresh crawfish straight from Louisiana the night before the event. According to Broussard, crawfish tastes like a cross between a shrimp and a lobster. The Rotary Club of Bloomingdale-FishHawk plans to cook it in the traditional way complete with potatoes and corn.
What would a crawfish boil be without the sounds of south Louisiana? Not to worry as the club has arranged for a live Cajun band. The Porchdogs are a band that specializes in Zydeco music or Louisiana-style Cajun music.
The proceeds from this event will benefit several local charities including A Kid’s Place, the Emergency Care Help Organization (ECHO), The Women’s Resource Center, The Y and the FishHawk Youth Sports Center. The Rotary Club of FishHawk is offering several ways for community members to support not only this event but the charities that will benefit from the event’s proceeds. Sponsorships are available and local businesses can take part in the business expo.
The Rotary Club of Bloomingdale/FishHawk meets every Monday at 12 Noon at the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s on Bell Shoals Rd. “Rotary is a group of business owners and community leaders who meet on a regular basis to make the community a better place to live,” said Heath.
