The Osprey Observer is proud to announce that it will be participating in the annual American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life for the fourth time!  This year, the Osprey will be participating in the Relay being held at Riverview High School, located at 11311 Boyette Rd. in Riverview on the school’s track. The walk is scheduled to begin on Saturday, March 31, at 2 pm and concludes on Sunday, April 1, at 8 am.   Since starting in 2008, Osprey Observer  has participated at the Newsome, Bloomingdale and Riverview Relays.
As part of its fundraising efforts, the Osprey Observer  is hosting its third annual Relay for Life Bunco on Tuesday, January 31, at 7 p.m. at Center Place, located at 619 Vonderburg Dr., Ste. B, in Brandon. Dinner will be included.
Last year, the Bunco event enabled the Osprey to make an additional $2,500 donation towards its Relay for Life team. “This year, we are hoping to raise $3,000,” said Assignment Editor Michelle Colesanti.
Some of the silent auction items at last year’s Bunco included a stay at Palmer House Bed & Breakfast, Chick-fil-A Lake Brandon Village baskets and more. “This year, we’re expecting some great auction items,” added Colesanti. A stay in a North Carolina cabin for a week (a $750 value) and a free flocking, which is when a flock of animals or other display is put on someone’s yard as a surprise for a birthday or other special occasion are sure to be on the list again.
Another big ticket item expected for live auction is a hot air balloon ride. In addition to the live and silent auctions, a 50/50 raffle will also take place.
Tickets to the event will be $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Tickets may be picked up at the Osprey Observer offices, located at 900 Lithia Pinecrest Rd. in Brandon, on the corner of Lithia Pinecrest and Lumsden Rd.
“Grab a friend, neighbor or your whole Bunco group and have a great time of food, drink and fun, while you donate to a great cause!” said Osprey’s Relay Team Captain Suzy Wiesenhart. “We can’t wait to see you there.”
