The SouthShore Regional Library in Ruskin is hosting the 2nd Annual Fiber Show now through the end of April. The Fiber Art Show features the artwork of 11 artists from all over the greater Brandon area.

Laurie Burhop, the Art Coordinator for the SouthShore Regional Library said, “The show is definitely a high caliber one. The artists who were accepted are extremely well versed and accomplished in their medium.”

The artists include Susan Skolnick, Jan Ring, Minnette Webster, Barbara Angemi, Diana Speedy, Nina Tatlock, Joan Mynahan, Patsy Monk, Mary McLaughlin, Dorothy Sparks and Laurie Burhop.

Burhop, herself an accomplished artist, has a piece in the show. Burhop said, “I was encouraged by the John Crawford Advisory Board to enter. My weavings are done on a four-harness floor loom and have a sculptural feel to them.” Burhop added, “The Crawford Board was looking for fiber work in many categories, not just quilting. We have a handmade paper artist (Minnette Webster with her two pieces called, “Paper Quilt” and “Crazy Quilt”), a couple of weavers and some quilters who do pin weaving.”

Some of the artists in this group show are quite accomplished. For instance, you can see “Grandson August at Bradenton Beach,” a hand-dyed 100% cotton fabric that won 3rd Place at this year’s Florida State Fair created by Jan Ring.

Some of the pieces are very large, while others are quite small. Burhop added, “The public really enjoys this show. It is a different medium, and it definitely intrigues them in taking a closer look.”

The SouthShore Regional Library is located at 15816 Beth Shields Way in Ruskin. The Fiber Art Show is available for viewing at any time when the library is open. For more information, please contact Burhop at 273-3652.
