What started as an argument, turned into a violent physical altercation ending with the shooting death of a Valrico man over the holiday weekend.

Based upon the preliminary information, Hillsborough County Sheriff detectives reported that on Sunday, September 1, 2013 just before 10 p.m. Robert Walker, 66 of 3913 Crosstree Lane in Valrico, and his wife Cynthia, 56, were inside their home when they began arguing which quickly turned physical.

HCSO information officer Larry McKinnon said that during this domestic altercation Walker’s wife, Cynthia, picked up a gun and shot her husband at least once.

When deputies arrived at the home they found Robert Walker deceased and his wife expecting the arrival of deputies upon which she was temporarily detained for homicide detectives.

Crime scene investigators and detectives worked throughout the night conducting interviews and examining physical evidence.

McKinnon said that Cynthia was fully cooperative with investigators and evidence at the scene has corroborated her statements.

Detectives also established that Robert had a number of prior arrests for domestic battery against his wife Cynthia.

“Following the consultation with the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office, no charges will be filed at this time pending further review of this case by the State Attorney’s office,” McKinnon said, adding that Cynthia was released from custody on Monday, September 2 in the morning.

The remains of Robert were taken to the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office which will make the official ruling on the cause of death.
