Every year for the last 27 years, Center Place of Brandon has hosted a season of live theatre for children ages 3 and up. Shows are offered November through May and are available for the general public and field trips for schools and daycares.

The 2013-2014 season will kick off with Freckleface Strawberry The Musical by Stages Productions. The first show will be on Wednesday, November 20 at 10:45 a.m. There will be five other presentations including a free general public show on Friday, November 22 at 7 p.m.  The free show is made possible thanks to a sponsorship from Terry Fink, State Farm Insurance.

The remainder of the season will include Santa’s Holiday Revue by Stages Productions in December; The Main Street Kids Club A MathStart Musical by Stages Productions in January; Anansi & The Tree of Life by Katie Adams Make Believe Theatre and Are You My Mother? by Arts Power in February; Going Bananas For Peace by Shana Banana and The Franzini Family Science Circus by Strictly Entertainment in March; Hansel & Gretel by Stages Production in April; and The Ugly Duckling’s Journey to Away by Stages Productions in May.

Center Place has always been committed to providing a wide range of arts activities including live theatre, and Executive Director, Dawn Galia, explained why. “Center Place believes that the arts make a positive difference in our lives, in our children’s lives and in our community. The arts are much more than just fun extra activities for kids. Participation in the arts opens up children’s worlds and minds and offers them the skills they need for a bright future.”

Center Place will host upwards of 15,000 children this season for the theatre field trips. Each performance is approximately 50 minutes long- just perfect for young children. The theatre seats up to 300.

Offering live theatre throughout the year is a costly endeavor. While Center Place does charge ($6 for members and $7 for non-members and $5.50 for schools and daycares), it still requires sponsors. For the 2013-2014 season, the sponsors include Pat’s Corner Gift Shop, 2013 Wild Dame Night, 2013 Patron Party, 2013 Chicks for Charities Cruise, Kohl’s, Macy’s and Terry Fink, State Farm Insurance.
