South Bay LogoSouth Bay Hospital, an HCA West Florida hospital, recently announced expansion and renovation projects which began in June. The $33 million project includes the addition of a new patient tower, Cath Lab and renovations of existing patient care areas.

The hospital is expanding to meet increasing patient needs in the SouthShore area where the population is expected to grow 11 percent over the next five years.

Among the slated projects:

Cath Lab—The hospital is building a state of the art, 2660-sq. ft. Cath Lab that will be located next to the hospital’s emergency department to allow for speed and efficiency of caring for patients with emergent medical needs. The Cath Lab will open this fall and it will be the first of its kind in the SouthShore area.

Patient Tower—Construction will begin later this year on a new patient tower. The tower will include additional 12 ICU patient rooms and 14 additional telemetry patient rooms. All of the additional rooms will be private patient rooms with the latest in patient monitoring technology and modern design and finishes. The tower will be designed to expand vertically for future third and fourth floor additions.

Main Lobby Renovation—Construction is expected to begin later this year on a new hospital entrance including a drive-through patient drop off, enhanced main lobby, gift shop, chapel and elevators.

Patient Unit Renovations—The hospital’s current patient care units will be renovated to give these existing units an updated and modern design.

South Bay Hospital has already invested more than $5 million in capital improvements and equipment over the past few years including a renovated patient wing for the hospital’s Center for Joint and Spine Care, a new Interventional Radiology Suite and a new MRI suite.

“South Bay Hospital is committed to continuing to be the leading healthcare provider for the residents of Southern Hillsborough County,” said Sharon Roush, CEO of South Bay Hospital. “We are excited about the expansion of the facility and services offered, and the impact that it will make on the health of our community.”

South Bay Hospital is a 112 bed, acute care hospital serving Sun City Center, Ruskin, Wimauma, Riverview, Apollo Beach, Gibsonton and the surrounding areas. It is located at 4016 Sun City Center Blvd. in Sun City Center.
