Residents anxiously awaiting the official opening of St. Joseph’s Hospital-South (SJHS) will have a chance to attend a community open house scheduled for next month.

The event to be held on January 17, 2015 is promising visitors the opportunity to enjoy a sneak peek of the brand new hospital, officially scheduled to fully open in the coming weeks.

The hospital was also pleased to announce the hosting of a virtual Battle of the Bands competition to select a local musical act to perform as part of the community open house line-up of festivities.

SJHS is part of BayCare Health System, located at 6901 Simmons Loop Rd. in Riverview, near the intersection of Big Bend Rd., and Simmons Loop Rd., approximately one-half mile east of I-75.

According to St. Joseph’s Hospital spokesperson Nancy Gay, the bands can still enter the contest by sending a video link of their band performing to Social.Media@BayCare.org along with the band’s name, phone number, address, e-mail address, music genre and a few words about why they want to perform at the community event. The deadline to send in all entrees is Friday, December 12.

Gay added that the winning band will receive $500 and will take the stage during the day-long celebration that will include a performance by a nationally known singer/songwriter who was born and raised in the sunshine state.

“Our Marketing and Communications team will select the top four bands and the winner will be selected by fans of our St. Joseph’s Hospital-South Facebook page by December 31,” Gay said, adding that full details about the event will be released as they become available.

So far, St. Joseph’s Hospital-South has hired more than half of its staff and is the first non-profit hospital in Southern Hillsborough County.

When it opens in early 2015, the 360,000-sq.-ft. $225 million facility will have 90 private patient rooms in addition to 22 observation suites, and will employ 500 team members offering nearly 20 different medical services including emergency, maternity and orthopedics. The facility is receiving furniture and equipment on a daily basis.
