On Saturday, October 17 you can step back into the 80’s when you attend the GFWC Brandon Junior Women’s Club’s Back to the 80’s Prom. This is a fundraiser to benefit Feeding Tampa Bay’s Backpack Program which sends meals home on the weekends and school breaks with children in need.

The event starts at 7 p.m. and will be held at River Hills County Club located at 3943 New River Hills Pkwy. in Valrico. Ticket prices range from $35 to $140. VIP tickets, which offer VIP seating and open bar, are also available. All tickets can be purchased at www.backtothe80sprom.com.

According to Kim Lasorsa, publicity chair for the GFWC Brandon Junior Women’s Club, “We’re putting the ‘fun’ in fundraising with our Back to the 80’s Prom.” Lasorsa added, “It may be called a prom, but we urge you to go crazy with the 80’s apparel. You’re not limited to a tux or prom dress. Anything goes as long as it’s related to the 80’s. Whether it’s your favorite 80’s celebrity or character, we want you to show your true colors. You might just win a prize for best outfit.”

Lasorsa said, “Have you always wanted to be Prom King or Queen? Make sure you bring your friends along to vote for you. Since it’s a fundraiser, votes are for sale.”

Attendees at the Back to the 80’s Prom will receive dinner and dessert. There will be a cash bar, a DJ spinning 80’s hits, a photo booth, awkward prom photos, a contest for best outfit and an Atari gaming contest.

Members of the GFWC Brandon Junior Women’s Club hope to make this their biggest fundraiser yet. Feeding Tampa Bay’s Backpack program supplies thousands of children with bags of shelf-stable, nutritious foods to take home over the weekend and during school vacations. They are given to children who are at risk of going hungry on days when they are not in school.

The children in the program receive free and reduced meals at school. Lasorsa said, “We have a crazy night planned to make sure our guests truly have an absolute blast during the event. There will be good music, bad 80’s fashion and a great charity to support.”
