Age comes to us all, if we’re lucky. And with age comes the need to plan for the probability of healthcare issues and the eventuality of leaving those we love. That is why the Law Offices of Laurie E. Ohall, P.A. have dedicated their careers to elder law and the unique issues of the older population including Advance Directives (POA’s and Living Wills), Medicaid Planning, VA benefits, Wills and Trusts.

Laurie E. Ohall is Florida Board Certified in Elder Law and has been practicing since 1994. Ohall decided to leave a career in insurance law and branch out on her own helping people instead of corporations. “I knew very quickly I wanted to do estate planning because it is something that definitely helps people. It gives clients peace of mind to know their wishes will be met after they pass on.” Ohall said.

In addition to elder law, Ohall’s firm also specializes in helping special needs families. “Many people do not realize that most elder law attorneys also work with special needs families because many of the issues that affect seniors also affect those with disabilities,” Ohall said. They also offer a pro bono workshop for families with special needs children turning 18 who will not be able to take care of themselves and still need a parent to act as guardian. The free workshop allows special needs families to educate themselves on how to file for guardian advocacy without the need of an attorney.

In addition to her work at the firm, Ohall serves on the board of directors for F.R.I.E.N.D.S (Families Raising Inspiring Educating and Networking for) Down Syndrome Tampa which provides educational and support services to families impacted by Down Syndrome. She also volunteers at assisted living facilities in the area, bringing karaoke to seniors in the community once a month.

Together with Dana C. Kemper, Ohall offers free phone consultations to anyone who has general estate planning, elder law, probate or guardianship questions. Kemper began her career as a paralegal and worked in the areas of Social Security Disability, Insurance defense, nursing home negligence and medical malpractice. Since 2001, she has worked both in the capacity as a paralegal, and later as an attorney, in the area of Elder law. She has been a practicing attorney in Florida since 2007 and has been with The Law Offices of Laurie E. Ohall, P.A. since September, 2016.

The Law Offices of Laurie Ohall are located at 1464 Oakfield Dr. in Brandon. For more information, please call 438-8503 or visit ohalllaw.com.
