The Tampa Bay Young Marines Are Looking For A Few Good Kids

The Tampa Bay Young Marines unit is part of a national non-profit 501c(3) youth education and service program for boys and girls, age 8 through the completion of high school. The Young Marines promotes the mental, moral and physical development of its members. The program focuses on teaching the values of leadership, teamwork, and self-discipline, so its members can live and promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. The Tampa Bay Young Marines presently meet Wednesday evenings from 6-8:30 p.m. at the US Marine Reserves located at 5121 W. The Teki Hinton Ericson Memorial Scholarship Announced

The Hillsborough County 4-H Foundation is pleased to announce the creation of the Teki Hinton Ericson memorial academic and trades scholarship. Mrs. Ericson was a 4-H alumnus and daughter of Chip and Jemy Hinton. We wish to thank the many friends of the Hinton family and to the Nat and Alice Storms family for making this Scholarship possible. Application forms are available through the 4-H Office. Submission Deadline for 2017 is Monday, July 10 at 4:30 p.m. The scholarship will be awarded at this year’s 4-H Awards Banquet on Saturday, August 12 at the the Hillsborough County Fairgrounds.

MOSI’s Rockets’ Red Glare Festival Launches Before Independence Day 

Discover the science of fireworks, then build rockets and send them soaring more than 100 feet into the sky during MOSI’s Rockets’ Red Glare Festival. The fun lifts off on Saturday, June 24 and Sunday June 25 and Saturday, July 1 and July 2. MOSI’s Rockets’ Red Glare Festival is included with MOSI admission.

Then that same paper rocket launching fun will continue on every weekend day during the festival, led by the staff of MOSI’s Idea Zone Makerspace.

Plus, at various times on festival days, live demonstrations will give you an up-close look into the science that makes fireworks light up the sky, led by MOSI’s STEAM Team.

Get Your Purple On At The Walk To End Alzheimer’s Kick Off Party

On Thursday, June 29 from 4-7 p.m., head over to Eats American Grill located at 6264 Winthrop Town Centre Blvd. in Riverview for the 2017 Walk to End Alzheimer’s Kick Off Party. Stop by to join a walk team or sign up a new team for the Alzheimer Walk happening on Saturday, October 14 at the Sun City United Methodist Church. The party will include door prizes, a 50/50 drawing, a free beer when you register your team and 5% of the sales donated to the Walk. Brandon Elks Lodge To Host Community Fourth Of July Celebration

The Independence Day celebration is open to the public and will be held on Tuesday, July 4 from 12 Noon-4 p.m. at the Elks Lodge. Lunch will be served from 12 Noon-2:30 p.m. with a menu of chicken, hamburgers, hotdogs and the fixings. The cost of lunch is $6 for adults and $3 for children.

Activities include a Slip & Slide for kids and a Checkers Tournament that will include first and second place prizes. The tournament begins at 2 p.m. with the registration ending at 1:45 p.m. The tournament entry fee is $2. Attendees can also view the movie Independence Day in the Lodge’s Lounge.
