“Corporate America wasn’t what it was cracked up to be”, said HFM Landscape & Irrigation Services owner Joe Flint.
Flint, following his father’s retirement in 2008 from Flint’s Sod & Irrigation, their successful family-run sod business, closed his family-run business. He worked in corporate America for nine years but in October 2017 decided he needed a change.
“I was traveling for work too much and missed the connection I felt with my home town of Brandon,” he said. “I also missed the joy I experienced owning my own business.”
Deciding on the type of business to open was an easy decision.
“I figured since my sod and irrigation company was so successful years ago, so it would be successful today,” he said.
He started HFM Landscape & Irrigation Services, offering residential and commercial irrigation repair and landscape installation. He also provides sod replacement and tree trimming and removal through his son, Hunter Flint’s company, HF Tree & Landscape.
Valrico resident Janet Perry saw an ad for HFM Landscape & Irrigation Services in the Osprey Observer and called him for an estimate for the repair of her irrigation system, which hadn’t been working for a year. He repaired Perry’s irrigation system quickly and efficiently at a reasonable cost.
“What really sold me on his company was the fact that he offered a lot of different services, from landscaping to tree trimming to irrigation services,” said Perry. “My yard requires multiple services to get it in good shape and I like the fact that he’s a one-stop shop.”
Perry soon hopes to use his son’s services to trim two large oak trees in her front yard as well as to upgrade her landscaping.
“I’ll hire his company to replace some sod in the fall too,” she said. “I have found my landscaping guy.”
“If he said he mowed grass too, I’d be all over it,” she joked.
Flint’s not ready to offer mowing services, but he does provide expert irrigation and landscaping services and says irrigation is the key to a successful landscape.
“Proper watering practices and maintenance of the system is crucial,” he said. “Keeping all trees property trimmed can also be a huge benefit to your lawn and landscape.”
