SouthShore’s retail and restaurant landscape continues to expand, with 10 projects advancing across Apollo Beach, Riverview, Ruskin, Wimauma and Sun City Center. Some remain in permitting, while others are under construction or have already opened.

Construction plans have been filed for a 3,986-square-foot Sonny’s BBQ restaurant with a drive-through near Riverview Drive and Mathog Road in Riverview. The project remains in the county permitting process, and construction has not been confirmed.

Buddy Brew Coffee is planning a cafe inside the Sprouts Farmers Market at 12960 S. U.S. 301 in Riverview. The Tampa-based specialty coffee company operates a similar cafe inside the Sprouts in Valrico. Opening details for the Riverview location have not been announced.

Newly submitted plans confirm that Target is planned for the LC Promenade development near Big Bend Road and Interstate 75 in Apollo Beach. The proposed 149,006-square-foot store would occupy approximately 12.5 acres and include 597 parking spaces, 18 designated Drive Up spaces and 16 cart corrals. Target would join the larger mixed-use development planned around the proposed Costco warehouse. Construction plans are under county review, and an opening date has not been announced.

Ford’s Garage is under construction at 10475 Alder Green Dr. in Riverview. Recent county inspections show work progressing through framing and mechanical, electrical and plumbing rough-ins. The restaurant will bring the automotive-themed burger and craft beer concept to the Big Bend Road area. An opening date has not been announced.

Swig, the drive-through beverage chain known for customizable ‘dirty sodas,’ has been confirmed for The Yard at Waterset in Apollo Beach. Swig is expected to be part of the development’s second phase, currently targeted for delivery in late 2026.

Publix opened its new Wolf Creek Commons store on August 13 at 3050 19th Ave. NE in Ruskin. The supermarket includes a pharmacy and drive-through and anchors a growing commercial development that also includes approximately 11,700 square feet of additional retail space and future outparcels.

Five Guys is moving forward with its planned restaurant at 3728 Sun City Center Blvd., Ste. 101, inside Cypress Village Plaza near Home Depot. The restaurant will occupy the vacant western endcap beside Charles Schwab. Sign permits have been filed, although the status of interior construction has not been confirmed.

Construction is underway on the Cold Stone Creamery coming to the former Elite Donuts space at 3824 Sun City Center Blvd. Recent photographs show crews installing the shop’s water lines beneath the concrete floor as part of the interior buildout. Cold Stone lists the location as ‘coming soon,’ but no opening date has been announced.

RaceTrac is planning a convenience store and gas station on the vacant property at the northwest corner of Sun City Center Boulevard and Cortaro Drive. The site has been cleared, but building construction has not been confirmed and no opening schedule has been announced.

Circle K is planned for the northeast corner of U.S. 301 and Berry Grove Boulevard in Wimauma, across from the Berry Bay community. Plans show access from Berry Grove Boulevard and the future Dune Shores Way, with no direct driveway onto U.S. 301. Construction-related plans are under review, but site or building work has not been confirmed.
