If you’re looking for one of the most meaningful events in South Shore this September, you’ll need a ticket—but it won’t cost you a dime. The United Methodist Church of Sun City Center is inviting the community to a special ecumenical remembrance, ‘25 Years Later: Remembering, Healing and Hope,’ on Friday, September 11, at 7 p.m. The event will be held at the church. Tickets are free, but seating is limited, so attendees are encouraged to stop by the church office to pick up their tickets well in advance of the event. The evening is offered by the church as a gift to the entire South Shore community.
Marking a quarter-century since the events of September 11, the program has been designed as an evening of remembrance, reflection, healing and hope. Rather than focusing on politics or division, the event seeks to bring people together through shared memories and a renewed commitment to community.
“This is an opportunity for neighbors to come together, regardless of faith tradition, to remember one of the defining moments in our nation’s history,” said event organizers Jeff Jordan and David Gwynne. “The evening is intended to honor courage, encourage healing and remind us that hope continues to shine even in difficult times.”
In addition to film, poetry, handbells, personal testimonies and audience participation, there will be a special massed choir comprised of singers from many of our local choral ensembles. The choir will be sharing portions of the well-known Gabriel Fauré Requiem as well as selections from Joseph Martin’s Of Faith and Freedom. It’s not too late for interested singers to participate as there will be two rehearsals on Saturday, August 29 and September 5, at 10 a.m. in the church sanctuary. Music will be provided. Please contact Jordan at 813-260-0153 for more information about the choir.
The service is ecumenical, welcoming people of every faith tradition — as well as those with no church affiliation — to participate in a spirit of unity and respect. The evening’s theme, ‘The Light Changes Everything,’ reflects the belief that compassion, understanding and hope can illuminate even the darkest moments of history.
Those wishing to attend should pick up their free tickets (up to four) soon, as interest is expected to be high. For more information, please visit www.lovethelight.org or stop by the church office.
