Business Owner Wants To Represent His Community In Election

Staff Report

Raised in Brandon, serving in the U.S. Army, becoming a dentist, a father of two and husband of a Hillsborough County teacher sounds like the perfect resume for meeting the needs of the local community in an elected position; and for FishHawk Family Dentistry co-owner Dr. Marc Johnson, it was an easy choice to toss his hat into the ring for state representative. And, for FishHawk Family Dentistry co-owner Dr. Marc Johnson, an easy choice.”Being a father and business owner and having grown up in the community gives me a very hands-on approach to the office of U.S. House of Representatives,” says Dr. Johnson. “Owning a home and a business gives me the first-hand experience needed to be effective for this district.”Johnson says his focus will be on jobs, the economy, transportation, planning issues and education during his first term representing the voters of Florida’s 56th District (Brandon, Riverview, Fishhawk and parts of Tampa including Davis Island). The first step in the race is that Johnson, running as a Republican candidate must first win the primary election in the district scheduled for Tuesday, August 24. His opponent will be the current representative, 27-year-old Rachel Burgin who has held the position for two years after the representative she worked for as a legislative aide, Trey Traviesa declined a reelection bid. “Our district needs a leader who can develop and successfully implement legislation that will address critical issues such as our deteriorating school system, our unemployment rate and the seemingly rampant wasteful spending of our tax dollars,” said Johnson. FishHawk resident Debra Royal is Johnson’s campaign manager. “Marc is my dentist and I jumped at the change to help make him my state representative as well.” Royal has a political background having worked in D.C. for 15 years and at the White House. “I’m amazed at Marc’s astuteness and insights. He knows the issues, the area and he’s a business owner.”   For more information, visit www.votemarcjohnson.com. FishHawk Family Dental is located at 16211 Fishhawk Boulevard.
