The Community Roundtable held its elections for its officers and trustees at its monthly meeting on Wednesday, September 12 at Center Place in Brandon. The officers for the 2012-2013 year are President, Sam Creasman; Janine B. Nickerson, Vice President; Lisa Rodriguez,. Secretary; and Steve Nickerson, Treasurer. In addition to the officers, there are trustees who serve on the board including Past President, B. Lee Elam and Brandon’s Honorary Mayor, Gay Lynn Love.

The Community Roundtable is a non-profit organization whose mission is to instill a sense of community and pride for the greater Brandon area through participation, via membership and volunteerism. The Community Roundtable has been operating continuously in the community for over 50 years.

The Community Roundtable sponsors the annual 4th of July Parade, the Brandon Honorary Mayor’s Race held each June and the Father of the Year contest. The Community Roundtable also hosts an annual Community Affairs Dinner.

In addition, the Community Roundtable is a co-sponsor of the annual Cards For Troops set for Saturday, October 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Center Place and Halloween Horribles set for Sunday, October 28 at 3 p.m. at Center Place. Both of these events have the community in mind. Volunteers are needed for both events.

This year, the Community Roundtable is sponsoring a new audio/visual system at Center Place. According to Creasman, “These are some of the ways that the Community Roundtable accomplishes its mission.” Creasman added, “We want to help the Brandon community.”

The Community Roundtable is also focused on volunteering. This includes gathering volunteers for its events as well as helping get volunteers to help local non-profits and civic organizations with events. According to Creasman, “This is an ongoing need in this community. There are ways that the Roundtable can help and ways that members and individuals in the community can help us as well.”
