For the past couple of years, the Valencia Lakes West Women’s club has taken on the task of collecting Christmas gifts for the less fortunate children in the Wimauma area.

Angels get hung on the tree, which is erected in the Valencia Lakes clubhouse.  Each angel has a child’s age and is either colored in red or blue signifying the sex of the child. Infants to teenagers are represented by the angels. The Valencia Lakes residents will pick one or more of the angels, and buy a gift for their angel. In the past the Valencia Lakes community has been very generous, with over 400 gifts bought last year.

A gift wrapping party is held in the middle of December and then the gifts are transported to Our Lady of Guadalupe for distribution to the needy children. The Valencia Lakes community angel tree is a generous outpouring of community support to make a needy child’s Christmas a merry one.
