The Southern Company Chorus, a group of talented women who gather to celebrate barbershop music, will present their annual holiday show, Sounds of the Seasons, on Saturday, December 5 at 7 p.m. The show will take place at Bell Shoals Church of Christ located at 2908 Bell Shoals Rd. in Brandon. Tickets are $10. Children 5 and under are free.

The Southern Company Chorus is a local chapter of Sweet Adelines International. The all female barbershop chorus is open to women of all ages. They meet every Monday at 7 p.m. at Bell Shoals Church of Christ.

Under the direction of Linda Verzosa, the Southern Company Chorus is simply outstanding. They are a delightful group of women with beautiful voices. The upcoming holiday concert will be a mix of old standards and holiday classics.

Team Coordinator for Southern Company Chorus Nancy Graue said, “We are an 18 voice chorus, and I like to say that we are small but mighty. The biggest thing about being in this group is the education and learning.

That along with an environment that is comfortable, is what makes this such a great group to belong to.”

According to both Graue and Verzosa, if you can talk, you can sing.

“Many women learn to sing, many improve their skills, but all gain a higher level of confidence by being in the group,” said Graue.

Because the Southern Company Chorus is small, they are able to participate in many community events. They sing at The Bridges, in Sun City and at the VA Hospital. The group will be a part of the entertainment at Center Place’s Annual Holiday Tea on Sunday, December 6 at Center Place in Brandon.

The upcoming holiday concert is perfect for everyone. The show will last approximately two hours, with an intermission and snacks for sale. The show will also feature “Tickled Pink,” a regional, award winning four member group made of women over 55 years old.

The Southern Company Chorus welcomes women of all ages who love to sing and can commit to practice every Monday evening from 7-9:30 p.m. at Bell Shoals Church of Christ in Brandon.
