Artwork Of Young Artists Adorn The Walls Of Brandon Regional Hospital’ Newly Refurbished Pediatric Center Unit
In Brandon Regional Hospital’s newly refurbished Pediatric Center Unit, the original artwork of 15 young area artists adorn the walls. The artwork was submitted during the hospital’s first ever Easter Egg Hunt back in March. Over 300 submissions came in from children from Brandon, Valrico, Riverview, FishHawk, Wimauma and Dover. The young artists ranged in age from four to 13 years old.

Children were encouraged to paint something and participate in the contest. The children were given a prompt to paint something that makes them happy, and of the 300 submissions, 15 were selected. Artwork was selected based on originality, creativity and artistic ability. Winners received an award and recognition at a dessert reception.

The artwork was judged by members of the hospital’s Pediatric Patient and Family Advisory Board. This board is composed of a group of former pediatric patients and their families who collaborate with clinicians and hospital staff on policy and program decisions related to the Pediatric Center Unit.

The winners were also asked to return to the hospital this past December for a special signing event. The young artists were asked to personalize their artwork with their autographs. The artwork will now become a permanent installation on the Pediatric Center Unit.

In commenting on the event, Jenny Bregman, Child Life Specialist said, “We know that the patients in the pediatric unit will be excited to see that kids, just like them in the community, created the artwork on their walls.”
