Staff Report

Two productions continue the current theatre season at Newsome High School (NHS). It’s A Wonderful Life – Live Radio Play opens for a one-night-only presentation on Monday, December 4 at 7 p.m.

The family favorite It’s A Wonderful Life is brought to the stage in a holiday radio play presented by the theatre 1 classes, and features seven actors who play a variety of roles in this live radio presentation of the classic story. The cast is led by Sean Barnette as Jake Laurentis who portrays the lovable George Bailey. Barnette is accompanied by Sarah Bradley as Lana Sherwood, playing Mary Hatch. Rounding out the cast is Caden Whitford as Freddy Filmore, Sydney Long and Hannah Clor as Lana and Donna Sherwood, Matthew Slider and Amber Johnson as Harry and Patricia Heywood. The cast is joined on stage by a team of Foley artists (sound effects) led by Griffin Cerrato, and four ad singers with piano accompanist.

This is a heartwarming production for young and old alike. Tickets can be purchased at the door or at www.newsometheatre.ticketleap.com for $10 for adults and $5 for students.

On Tuesday, December 5, NHS Theatre presents the winter showcase at 7 p.m., featuring individual acting and musical theatre acts and the competitive one act The Sandbox by Edward Albee.

This production highlights acting and musical events from the Hillsborough County Individual Events, in which Newsome earned 19 superior rankings. Six of the events performed on December 5 will go on to compete at the Florida State Thespian Festival in March, 2018.

After the intermission, NHS will present the competitive one act The Sandbox by Edward Albee, which is an autobiographical play in memory of Albee’s grandmother. Mommy and Daddy (played by Alyssa Readdy and Patrick Maikowski) bring Grandma (Maddalena Camilleri) to the beach at the end of her life. They are joined by The Young Man (Sean Barnette) and The Musician (Tabitha Westrate) on an exploration of family relationships and dynamics.

Admission is by donation, half of which will be given to a theatre program in Puerto Rico. Those who cannot attend but would like to donate can send donations to Newsome Drama Boosters, c/o Newsome HS Theatre, 16550 Fishhawk Blvd., Lithia, FL 33547.
