Tammy Holmberg was gracious in her acceptance of the 2011 Key Citizen Award which was given to her by the 2010 recipient, Becky Jordan, at the Annual Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce Dinner held at The Regent in February.

The Annual Dinner of the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce is a time to get together and honor and celebrate those who make a difference in theĀ  Brandon community. This year’s dinner was held in February at The Regent in Riverview.

Those in attendance at the annual dinner included citizens, community leaders, government office holders and military leaders from MacDill Air Force Base. The evening was kicked off with a Presentation of Colors by members from the Armwood High School R.O.T.C.

The annual dinner is an opportunity for the chamber to highlight the goals for the upcoming year and to celebrate the accomplishments of the past year. This includes a second year Accreditation by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce as 5-Star Chamber.

Melissa Snively, chamber board chairman, said, “2011-2012 was a year for all of us to be proud of the chamber. We welcomed 200 new members and maintained the operational excellence and 5-Star rating.”

Incoming Chairman Bob Bivins outlined six goals for the coming year. Bivins said, “We must remember our core mission is to be a resource for our members. We need to meet today’s needs and stay relevant.”

A highlight of the evening is the presentation of various awards. Ambassador of the Year was given to Charles Shenning. Volunteer of the Year was awarded to Susan Saunders. The Chairman’s Award was given to Jeff Campbell.

The 2011 Key Citizen Award was presented to Tammy Holmberg for her unselfish dedication. Becky Jordan, the 2010 recipient, said, “Tammy is generous in more ways than we can count.” Holmberg, who founded Chicks For Charity said, “I like to put on events that benefit the local charities. It is much more fun to host an event and bring everyone together to benefit an organization such as Center Place or ECHO than it is to just write a check.”

The Greater Brandon Community Leadership Award was given to Attorney General Pam Bondi. Past recipients have included Supervisor of Elections Dr. Earl Lennard, Senate President Tom Lee and County Commissioner Sandy Murman.
