Brandon Ballet Dancers Will Wow You In Their Performances In Spanish
By Kathy L. Collins
The Brandon Ballet will present “Spanish Divertissements” on Friday, March 1 at 7 p.m. at Centro Asturiano de Tampa located at 1913 N. Nebraska Ave. in Tampa. Tickets are $25. On Saturday, March 2 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., the performances will be held in the Riverview High School Theater located at 11311 Boyette Rd. in Riverview. Tickets for Lower Center are 40 and $20 for all other sections.
“Divertissements” literally translates to a light piece of music for a small group of players. The Brandon Ballet will present several ballet suites from ballets such as Don Quixote, Paquita and more.
Under the Artistic Direction of Octavio Martin, ballet and dance lovers in the greater Brandon area have delighted in an increased number of performances and been captivated with free lectures offered by the Brandon Ballet on the third Wednesday of each month at The Regent, located at 6437 Watson Rd. in Riverview.
In “Spanish Divertissements,” you will enjoy choreography from great ballets performed by the Brandon Ballet’s own professional dancers alongside talented pre-professional students. This is a performance you will not want to miss.
Martin is a native of Cuba. He was a principal dancer with the National Ballet of Cuba. He danced with them from 1994 until 2006 when he joined the Sarasota Ballet. Martin came to the Brandon Ballet in 2012. Since his arrival with the Brandon Ballet, he has worked hard to produce more performances and raise the stature of the Brandon Ballet.
The Brandon Ballet is a non-profit, pre-professional ballet company that has been training serious dancers since 1993. The Brandon Ballet provides Brandon and the surrounding communities with an education in the art of dance.
